How I got here.
From an early age, I was captivated by storytelling through creative expression, often immersing myself in art, design, and creative writing. This interest led me to a degree in Journalism and Mass Communication, where I arrived at the intersection between mediums, poised to make my voice heard and seen.
I embarked on my professional journey as a junior designer at iW Magazine, a monthly international luxury wristwatch publication. My initial role rapidly expanded, allowing me to manage content and breathe life into the stories behind intricate timepieces. Over five years, I advanced from intern to Art and Editorial Director.
Eager to strengthen my visual communication, I transitioned into creative agency life as an Art Director. Here, I honed the art of collaborative ideation, and added UI/UX to my creative tool belt. However, the allure of the luxury industry soon beckoned me back.
I joined Freeman's Auction, the first auction house established in the United States, renowned for its expertise in fine art, jewelry and watches, and contemporary design among others. My role was incredibly varied, encompassing everything from capturing video and photography to managing social channels and analytics. The experience was profoundly enriching and prepared me for my next strategic leap.
Recognizing the burgeoning trend in pre-owned luxury, I found myself back in the world of watches. WatchBox, now The 1916 Company, is a luxury wristwatch retailer specializing in the secondary market. Joining during its global expansion phase, I had the unique opportunity to work with some of the most exclusive timepieces in the world, from iconic brands like Rolex, Audemars Piguet, Cartier, Patek Philippe and more. Over four years, I built and nurtured a creative team, honed my leadership skills, and developed film and photo studios. The fast-paced environment at WatchBox required running comprehensive 360-degree campaigns within three-week cycles, integrating all my previous experiences into content with impactful results.
As I took on more responsibility, my passion for creative leadership blossomed. I believe in servant leadership. For creative professionals, servant leadership includes mentorship with paths for growth, compassion, and celebrating every creative contribution. I prioritize collaborative team cultures, where trust is paramount and every idea matters — even the ones just for laughs. This practice keeps teams connected to the ever-evolving creative industry and each other, ensuring exceptional outcomes.
Driven by a desire for creative growth, I most recently embarked on a new chapter as an independent Creative Director. As the founder of Kate Lawler Creative, I assemble bespoke teams tailored to each client's unique needs, from my network of talented creative and marketing professionals. This approach delivers impactful content, without the overhead of a big agency budget.
Today, at the helm of my own creative shop, I am dedicated to crafting work that not only visually captivates, but fosters meaningful connections and inspires innovation.
